Potassium molybdate
Description
Potassium molybdate (CAS 13446-49-6), also known as dipotassium molybdate, is an inorganic molybdenum salt used across industrial and agricultural sectors primarily as a corrosion inhibitor and micronutrient source.
Its solubility and molybdenum content make it a preferred form for applications requiring precise dosing in aqueous systems. In water treatment and industrial cooling systems, it functions as an anodic corrosion inhibitor.
It protects metal surfaces in recirculating water circuits where scale and oxidation control are critical. Agriculture and specialty fertilizer manufacturers use it as a molybdenum micronutrient source in foliar sprays.
Soil amendment formulations targeting molybdenum-deficient crops also utilize this salt. In mining and metals processing, it is used in flotation reagent systems and as a component in metal surface treatment chemistries.
Industrial and institutional cleaning formulations incorporate it where corrosion protection of metal substrates during cleaning cycles is a requirement. Potassium molybdate is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granular solid.
Technical and reagent-grade specifications are the most commonly available, with purity levels typically at 98% or higher. Packaging ranges from laboratory quantities to bulk industrial supply, depending on the application volume.
