Ziram
Description
Ziram (CAS 137-30-4) is a zinc dithiocarbamate compound used commercially as a fungicide in crop protection and as an accelerator and secondary antioxidant in rubber processing. Known in agricultural markets as zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate, it controls a broad spectrum of fungal pathogens.
In rubber manufacturing, it accelerates vulcanization while contributing to oxidative stability in the finished compound. In agriculture, it is applied as a protective foliar fungicide on crops such as almonds, stone fruits, and leafy vegetables.
It targets diseases including scab, leaf spot, and anthracnose. Formulators incorporate it into wettable powder and suspension concentrate fungicide products for both commercial and specialty crop markets. This versatility makes it a staple in global agricultural supply chains.
In rubber compounding, it functions as an ultra-accelerator in natural and synthetic rubber systems, particularly where fast cure rates are required. This includes applications in tire components, seals, and various molded goods requiring high durability.
It also appears in industrial wood preservative formulations as a biocidal active ingredient against mold and decay fungi. This dual-use nature allows it to serve both the heavy industrial manufacturing and the specialized agricultural sectors effectively.
The product is supplied as a white to light yellow powder or as wettable powder concentrates pre-formulated for agricultural use. Technical-grade material is the standard form for rubber and industrial applications, ensuring consistent performance in chemical processing.
Agricultural-grade product must meet registration specifications set by relevant regulatory authorities. Purity levels for technical-grade material are typically 90% or higher, meeting the rigorous demands of modern chemical manufacturing and crop protection standards.
