Description

Disulfiram (CAS 97-77-8), also known commercially as Tetraethylthiuram Disulfide or TETD, is an organosulfur compound with established roles across rubber manufacturing and pharmaceutical production. It functions primarily as a vulcanization accelerator, biocide, and active pharmaceutical ingredient precursor. In rubber and polymer processing, it acts as an ultra-fast vulcanization accelerator for various applications.

This compound enables rapid crosslinking in latex and dry rubber compounds used in gloves, seals, and industrial goods. Pharmaceutical manufacturers source it as an API or intermediate for alcohol-aversion therapy formulations. Consistent purity and specification compliance are critical to regulatory approval in these medical contexts. As an industrial biocide and antifungal agent, it is incorporated into preservation systems for coatings and adhesives.

It is also used in agricultural products and functions as an antioxidant stabilizer in certain polymer formulations. This protects materials against oxidative degradation during both processing and long-term storage. The product is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. Standard grades include technical-grade material for rubber and industrial applications, alongside pharmaceutical-grade product meeting USP and BP specifications.

Bulk quantities are available for industrial buyers, with pharmaceutical-grade material typically subject to stricter documentation. These high-purity grades ensure safety and efficacy for medicinal use and specialized chemical synthesis.
