Description

Zinc carbonate (CAS 3486-35-9), also known as Zincspar, is an inorganic zinc salt used across coatings, rubber, and personal care manufacturing. It functions primarily as a pH buffer and catalyst precursor. This versatile chemical acts as a mild biocide in both wet and dry formulation systems. In coatings and anticorrosive primers, it acts as a zinc source that stabilizes pH and contributes to substrate protection.

Rubber and elastomer compounders use it as a zinc oxide precursor. By calcining it in-process, they generate active ZnO for vulcanization without the need for handling the oxide directly during the initial stages. In personal care and cosmetic formulations, it provides mild astringency and odor control. It is frequently utilized in powders, creams, and topical products to enhance the overall stability and performance of the formula.

Water treatment and mining operations use it to adjust pH in process streams and precipitate interfering metal ions. This ensures that industrial processes remain efficient and meet environmental safety requirements. Zinc carbonate is supplied as a white powder in technical and pharmaceutical grades. USP and BP grades are available for healthcare and personal care applications to ensure high purity.

Technical grade serves industrial coatings, rubber, and mining end uses. Standard packaging ranges from multi-wall bags to bulk quantities, with purity levels typically specified at 57–60% ZnO equivalent.
