7-Methyl-1-octanol
Description
7-Methyl-1-octanol (CAS 2430-22-0), commercially known as Isononyl alcohol or NEOFLEX 9, is a branched-chain fatty alcohol used as a solvent and chemical intermediate across plastics, cleaning, and lubricant applications.
Its branched structure supports ester synthesis and plasticizer production where linear alcohols fall short on performance or processability. In plastics and polymer manufacturing, it serves as a precursor for isononyl ester plasticizers.
This includes phthalate and non-phthalate alternatives used in flexible PVC formulations. Home care and industrial cleaning formulators incorporate it as a solvent carrier to improve active ingredient solubility and surface wetting.
It is highly effective in hard-surface and industrial degreasers. In metalworking and lubricant compounding, it functions as a base component or co-solvent in cutting fluids and rust-preventive formulations.
The compound also acts as an intermediate in the synthesis of specialty surfactants and fragrance compounds targeting industrial end markets. It is supplied as a clear liquid in standard bulk packaging including drums.
ISO tank containers are available for larger volumes. Technical grade is the primary commercial specification available, suitable for industrial synthesis and formulation use across various global manufacturing sectors.
Buyers should confirm purity levels and isomer profile with suppliers, as composition can vary between production sources. This ensures the material meets the specific requirements of the intended chemical application.
