Description

2,4-Toluene diisocyanate dimer (CAS 26747-90-0) is a solid, low-vapor-pressure blocked isocyanate derived from TDI, designed to release reactive isocyanate groups upon thermal activation.

Unlike monomeric TDI, the dimerized form offers significantly reduced volatility, making it a preferred building block where handling safety and formulation stability are procurement priorities.

In powder coatings and one-component polyurethane systems, it functions as a latent crosslinker that activates during cure cycles, enabling stable pre-mixed formulations with extended shelf life.

Rubber and tire compounders incorporate it as a curative to improve adhesion between rubber substrates and reinforcing materials, particularly in belt and hose constructions.

Adhesive and sealant formulators use it to introduce controlled crosslink density in polyurethane systems without the handling complications associated with free TDI.

In thermoplastic polyurethane and elastomer production, it serves as a reactive monomer contributing to hard-segment formation and mechanical performance.

2,4-Toluene diisocyanate dimer is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity specifications typically confirmed by NCO content titration.

Packaging is available in multi-kilogram bags through to bulk quantities depending on supplier. This material is handled according to standard industrial safety protocols for isocyanate derivatives.
