Diaminotoluene

Description

Diaminotoluene (CAS 26764-44-3), also referred to as toluenediamine or TDA, is an aromatic diamine used as a reactive building block in polymer chemistry. It functions primarily as a curing agent and chain extender.

This chemical is essential in the production of polyurethanes, epoxy systems, and specialty resins. In polyurethane manufacturing, TDA serves as a chain extender in the synthesis of rigid and flexible foams and elastomers.

It is also utilized in cast systems where precise crosslink density is required. Epoxy formulators use it as a hardener in high-performance coatings, adhesives, and structural laminates where thermal resistance is demanded.

In rubber compounding and tire manufacturing, it contributes to vulcanization systems and antiozonant precursor chemistry. Adhesive and sealant producers incorporate it into two-component systems for industrial bonding.

These applications target environments with demanding mechanical performance requirements. Diaminotoluene is supplied as a liquid or low-melting solid depending on isomer composition, with various grades available.

The 2,4- and 2,6-isomers and mixed-isomer grades are available commercially. Technical-grade material is the standard offering for industrial polymer and coating applications to ensure consistent results.

Bulk quantities are typically available in drums and IBC containers for large-scale operations. Purity specifications are confirmed by certificate of analysis to meet the necessary industrial benchmarks for production.
