Triisopropylbenzene polycarbodiimide
Description
Triisopropylbenzene polycarbodiimide (CAS 29117-01-9), commercially known as Stabaxol P 100, is a polymeric carbodiimide stabilizer used to protect hydrolysis-sensitive polymers from acid-catalyzed degradation.
It reacts with carboxylic acid end groups generated during polymer hydrolysis, extending the service life of engineering plastics, elastomers, and coatings in demanding environments.
In polyester and polyurethane compounding, it functions as a hydrolysis stabilizer that scavenges free acid groups, preventing molecular weight loss during processing or long-term use.
Rubber and elastomer formulators incorporate it into thermoplastic polyurethane and polylactic acid compounds where moisture exposure would otherwise accelerate chain scission.
Coating and adhesive manufacturers use it as a crosslinker for waterborne systems containing carboxyl-functional resins, improving film durability and chemical resistance.
It is also used in fiber and film production where maintaining mechanical performance under humid or elevated-temperature conditions is a processing requirement.
Triisopropylbenzene polycarbodiimide is supplied as a solid, typically in granule or flake form, suited for melt compounding and masterbatch preparation.
Technical-grade material is the standard commercial offering, with specifications typically defined by carbodiimide equivalent weight and residual isocyanate content.
