Description

Bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)carbodiimide (CAS 2162-74-5), commercially known as Staboxol 1, is a monomeric carbodiimide stabilizer used to protect polymers and lubricant formulations from hydrolytic degradation. It reacts with carboxylic acid groups generated during polymer breakdown, interrupting chain scission before it causes measurable property loss. In polyester, polyurethane, and polylactic acid compounds, it extends service life.

By neutralizing acidic degradation products that would otherwise accelerate molecular weight loss, it ensures material integrity. Lubricant and metalworking fluid formulators incorporate it to maintain viscosity stability. It protects ester-based base oils under high-temperature or moisture-exposed operating conditions. Automotive under-hood components, including seals, gaskets, and engineering plastic parts, benefit from its inclusion.

Where thermal and hydrolytic stress would otherwise shorten part lifespan, this stabilizer provides essential protection.
