Bromacil
Description
Bromacil (CAS 314-40-9), also sold under the trade names Hyvar X, Uragan, and Borea, is a uracil-based herbicide used for broad-spectrum weed and brush control. It targets both annual and perennial weeds through soil uptake and foliar absorption, disrupting photosynthesis in susceptible plants. Bromacil is primarily applied for total vegetation control.
This active ingredient is used on non-crop land, including industrial sites, railway corridors, utility rights-of-way, and roadsides where bare ground maintenance is required for safety. In citrus and pineapple cultivation, it controls a wide range of grassy and broadleaf weeds without damaging the established crop. Formulators incorporate it into herbicide products.
It can be used as a standalone active or in combination with other actives, such as diuron, to extend the spectrum of control and residual activity in various soil types. Its soil persistence makes it a preferred choice for long-term vegetation suppression programs in infrastructure maintenance contracts. Bromacil is supplied as a wettable powder (WP).
It is also available as a soluble concentrate and granular formulation for end-use herbicide products. Technical-grade material is available for formulators requiring a bulk active ingredient. Standard commercial concentrations in finished formulations typically range from 40% to 80% active ingredient depending on the intended application method and specific site requirements.
