Description

Triclosan (CAS 3380-34-5) is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent used across personal care, healthcare, and industrial manufacturing sectors. It functions as a preservative and biocide, inhibiting bacterial and fungal growth in finished formulations and treated materials.

In personal care and cosmetics, it is incorporated into antibacterial soaps, deodorants, and skin cleansers to extend shelf life and deliver active antimicrobial performance. Healthcare product manufacturers use it in surgical scrubs and topical preparations.

In these medical applications, microbial control is a critical formulation requirement. Textile and leather processors apply it as an antimicrobial treatment to finished fabrics and hides, helping prevent odor-causing bacterial growth in end products.

Plastics compounders incorporate it into polymer matrices, particularly for consumer goods and medical device housings. This is often done where built-in antimicrobial protection is a specific product specification requirement for the manufacturer.

The chemical is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. It is available in technical grade for industrial applications and in higher-purity grades meeting USP and Ph. Eur. specifications for pharmaceutical and personal care use.

Packaging typically ranges from kilogram-scale bags to bulk drum quantities to suit both formulation-scale and manufacturing-volume procurement. This ensures that the material meets the logistical needs of various industrial and laboratory settings.
