Description

Physcion (CAS 521-61-9), also known as Emodin 3-methyl ether, is a naturally derived anthraquinone pigment isolated from lichens, rhubarb, and related botanical sources. It functions as a colorant, antioxidant, and UV-stabilizing agent across cosmetic and industrial formulations. In personal care and cosmetics, it is incorporated into formulations where botanical-origin pigmentation is required.

This includes color cosmetics and skin-conditioning products where antioxidant activity is also beneficial. The textile and leather industries use it as a natural dye precursor for specific applications. Its anthraquinone chromophore delivers yellow-orange hues with reasonable substrate affinity. In printing and packaging, it contributes to natural ink systems and specialty colorant blends for sustainable lines.

Its UV-stabilizing function also positions it as a functional additive in surface coatings. This is particularly useful where photodegradation resistance is a primary formulation requirement for the end product. The material is supplied as a yellow to orange crystalline powder. It is available primarily in research and specialty chemical grades, with purity levels typically ranging from 95% to 98%+ as confirmed by HPLC.

Supply volumes suit pilot-scale and specialty formulation applications rather than bulk commodity procurement. This ensures high quality and consistency for technical and industrial manufacturing processes.
