Styrenated phenol
Description
Styrenated phenol (CAS 61788-44-1), also known as tristyrenated phenol, is a mixture of mono-, di-, and tristyrene-substituted phenols used as an antioxidant and stabilizer in polymer and rubber processing.
It protects materials from oxidative degradation during compounding, storage, and end-use exposure. In rubber and tire manufacturing, it functions as a processing stabilizer and softener, improving compound workability.
This chemical helps in extending service life for various industrial materials. Lubricant and metalworking fluid formulators incorporate it as an antioxidant additive to prevent oxidative breakdown under high-temperature conditions.
It is particularly effective under high-shear conditions common in industrial machinery. Coatings and adhesive manufacturers use it to stabilize resin systems against premature crosslinking and discoloration during production.
It also prevents degradation during shelf storage for finished goods. It acts as a plasticizer and softener in elastomer and sealant formulations, where controlled flexibility and compatibility are required.
The product is compatible with various polymer matrices used in modern manufacturing. It is supplied as a viscous liquid or pale to amber-colored liquid depending on the degree of styrene substitution.
Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity and composition specifications typically defined by the supplier's product sheet to ensure consistent performance in all applications.
Bulk supply is available in drums and intermediate bulk containers for various needs. Tanker quantities are also accessible for high-volume industrial buyers requiring large-scale chemical distribution.
