Montan acid wax

Description

Montan acid wax (CAS 68476-03-9), also supplied under the designation TMN 102, is a refined fraction derived from lignite-based montan wax consisting predominantly of long-chain fatty acids.

It functions as a processing lubricant, surface modifier, and rheology modifier across polymer, coating, and metalworking applications. In plastics processing, it acts as an internal and external lubricant.

During PVC and polyolefin compounding, it reduces die build-up and improves mold release without compromising surface finish. Coating formulators incorporate it to control rheology and enhance slip resistance.

It can also impart a matting or polishing effect to industrial and decorative surface coatings. In adhesives and sealants, it modifies tack and flow behavior, supporting consistent application across systems.

This material is effective in both hot-melt and solvent-based systems. Metalworking lubricant manufacturers use it as a base component in drawing compounds and release agents where stability is required.

It is particularly valued for high-temperature stability and film-forming performance. Montan acid wax is supplied as a hard, brittle solid in flake or pastille form for easy handling.

Technical grade is the standard commercial specification, with product consistency typically defined by acid value, saponification value, and drop point. Packaging is available in bags or bulk quantities.

These formats are suited to industrial procurement volumes. The material provides reliable performance for manufacturers seeking high-quality additives for demanding industrial chemical processes.
