Isopropylphenyl phosphate
Description
Isopropylphenyl phosphate (CAS 68937-41-7), commercially known as IPPP or isopropylated triphenyl phosphate, is an organophosphate ester used as both a flame retardant and plasticizer in demanding industrial applications.
It delivers fire resistance and flexibility simultaneously, reducing the need for multiple additive systems in a single formulation. In plastics and polymer compounding, IPPP functions as a reactive flame retardant-plasticizer.
It is used in PVC, polyurethane foams, and engineering resins, improving processability while meeting flammability standards. Hydraulic fluids and fire-resistant lubricants for aerospace and industrial machinery incorporate IPPP.
This helps to maintain lubrication performance under high-temperature conditions where conventional mineral oils present ignition risk. Automotive interior components use IPPP to satisfy OEM flame retardancy specifications.
These components include wire and cable insulation, seating foams, and under-hood parts. It also appears in metalworking fluids where fire resistance at elevated operating temperatures is a formulation requirement.
IPPP is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid, typically in bulk drums or IBC containers suited to industrial-scale procurement. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering for this material.
Specifications are aligned to phosphorus content, viscosity, and acid value as key quality parameters. Buyers should confirm purity and isomer distribution with suppliers as these affect flame retardant efficiency.
These factors also impact compatibility with target polymer systems. Proper handling and storage are essential to maintain the chemical stability and performance characteristics of the product over its shelf life.
