Description

2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acrylate (CAS 7328-17-8), commercially known as Carbitol acrylate or DEGA, is a reactive monomer used in UV/EB-curable systems to control film flexibility and reduce brittleness in cured coatings. Its ether-chain structure delivers plasticizing character directly into the polymer network during polymerization, eliminating the need for separate plasticizer addition in the formulation process.

In UV-curable coatings and inks, DEGA functions as a reactive diluent that lowers viscosity for press or coating application while contributing to a softer, more flexible cured film. Packaging and label printing formulators use it to improve substrate adhesion and reduce cracking on flexible substrates. In radiation-curable adhesives and sealants, it extends the polymer backbone.

This extension improves elongation and peel resistance in the final bond. Plastics and polymer manufacturers incorporate it as a co-monomer in acrylate-based systems where controlled softness is required. Compatibility with polar substrates are key formulation targets for this monomer. It is supplied as a clear liquid in standard industrial drum and IBC quantities for large scale manufacturing.

Technical grade is the primary commercial specification, with inhibited grades available to ensure storage stability during transport and warehousing. Purity levels of 98% and above are standard. These purity levels are ideal for reactive monomer applications. The product meets rigorous industrial requirements for consistency and performance in high-speed curing environments.
