2-ethylhexyl acrylate
Description
2-Ethylhexyl acrylate (CAS 103-11-7), commonly abbreviated as 2-EHA, is a long-chain acrylic monomer used to introduce flexibility and low-temperature performance into polymer systems. It copolymerizes readily with harder monomers to balance softness, tack, and durability across a broad range of formulated products. In pressure-sensitive adhesives, it is a primary soft monomer.
This monomer controls peel strength and tack in tapes, labels, and protective films. Architectural and industrial coatings rely on it to lower glass transition temperature, improving film flexibility. It provides resistance to cracking in exterior applications. Sealants and elastomeric compounds incorporate 2-EHA-based polymers where elongation and weathering resistance are critical performance requirements.
In personal care, it appears in film-forming polymers used for hair fixatives and skin-adhesive formulations where soft, flexible films are required for the end user and application. 2-Ethylhexyl acrylate is supplied as a clear liquid in bulk quantities, including ISO tank, drum, and IBC formats standard for reactive monomers. Technical grade is the predominant specification.
Inhibited grades typically containing MEHQ are available for safe storage and transport. Purity levels of 99%+ are standard for polymerization-grade material used in industrial manufacturing.
