Description

Stearamidopropyl dimethylamine (CAS 7651-02-7) is a fatty amidoamine used across personal care and industrial formulations as a conditioning agent, emulsifier, and rheology modifier. It functions primarily by adsorbing onto negatively charged surfaces to deliver softness and slip.

In hair care, it is protonated with acid to form a mild cationic conditioning active used in conditioners, detanglers, and conditioning shampoos. This process reduces combing friction and improves manageability for various hair types.

Textile and fiber processing operations use it as a softening and antistatic finish on synthetic and natural fabrics. In leather treatment, it improves surface feel and aids uniform dye dispersion across the substrate during manufacturing.

Paper manufacturers apply it as a surface modifier to improve wet strength additive compatibility and sheet handling properties. Its versatile chemical structure allows for effective performance across multiple industrial substrates and applications.

The material is supplied as a pale yellow to off-white waxy solid or low-melting flake. Technical and cosmetic grades are the standard commercial forms, with cosmetic-grade material meeting purity requirements for personal care products.

Typical active content is specified at 95% or higher depending on grade and supplier specification. This high purity ensures consistent performance in sensitive formulations and demanding industrial processes where quality is paramount.
