Dicyclopentadiene
Description
Dicyclopentadiene (CAS 77-73-6) is a cyclic diene monomer derived from the dimerization of cyclopentadiene. It serves as a reactive building block in resin and polymer synthesis across several industrial sectors. In unsaturated polyester resins, DCPD is incorporated to reduce styrene content, improve surface quality, and lower resin cost. This makes it a standard raw material for fiberglass composites used in automotive and construction panels.
Hydrocarbon resin manufacturers use DCPD as a primary feedstock to produce C5/C9 resins applied in hot-melt adhesives, road-marking paints, and printing inks. These resins provide excellent tack and stability. In the coatings and ink industry, DCPD-based resins contribute to fast-drying, high-gloss formulations for publication and packaging printing. It also functions as a monomer in ring-opening metathesis polymerization.
This process produces polydicyclopentadiene, a high-impact engineering material used in structural and industrial molded parts. The material is valued for its durability and resistance to chemical degradation. DCPD is supplied as a liquid or solid depending on purity grade, with high-purity grades typically 95% and 99% available for polymer and specialty resin applications. Technical-grade material is standard for large-volume use.
It is commonly traded in bulk quantities, with drum and ISO tank packaging available for industrial buyers. Our supply chain ensures consistent quality and reliable delivery for all manufacturing requirements.
