Copper sulfate
Description
Copper sulfate (CAS 7758-98-7), also known as E519, is an inorganic copper salt supplied primarily as a blue crystalline pentahydrate or anhydrous powder. It functions across agriculture, water treatment, mining, and industrial processing.
The compound serves as a biocide, algaecide, catalyst precursor, and chemical reagent. In agriculture, it controls fungal diseases on crops and is a core active in Bordeaux mixture, a widely formulated plant protection product.
Water treatment facilities use it to eliminate algae blooms in reservoirs, drinking water systems, and aquaculture environments. Mining operations rely on it in froth flotation processes to selectively activate sulfide minerals.
This activation improves ore separation efficiency during the extraction process. In textiles and leather processing, it acts as a mordant to fix dyes onto fibers and hides, ensuring color fastness in finished goods.
Copper sulfate is available as the pentahydrate in granular, crystal, or fine powder form, and as the anhydrous grade in powder form. Standard grades include technical, agricultural, and feed-grade options for various industries.
Food-grade material conforms to E519 specifications for permitted food and feed applications. Purity levels typically range from 98% to 99%+ depending on the specific grade and the end-use requirements of the client.
