Copper nitrate
Description
Copper nitrate (CAS 3251-23-8), also sold as cupric nitrate, is an inorganic copper salt used industrially as an oxidizing agent, catalyst precursor, and biocidal active.
It delivers soluble copper ion in concentrated, reactive form across a broad range of manufacturing and treatment processes. In water treatment, it functions as a biocide and algaecide.
It is used for controlling microbial growth in industrial cooling systems and process water circuits. Textile and leather processors use it as a mordant and surface treatment agent.
This helps to fix dyes and impart antimicrobial finishes to finished goods. In catalyst manufacturing, it serves as a copper precursor for preparing supported metal oxide catalysts.
These catalysts are used in chemical synthesis and emissions control. Agriculture applications include its use as a micronutrient copper source in foliar sprays and soil correction.
These programs target copper-deficient crops. Copper nitrate is supplied as blue crystalline trihydrate or hexahydrate solids, with the trihydrate being the most prevalent form.
Technical grade is standard for industrial and agricultural supply, with purity specifications typically ranging from 98% to 99%. Bulk quantities are available in bags or drums.
Packaging is suited to moisture-sensitive handling requirements. This ensures the material remains stable and effective for various industrial and chemical manufacturing applications.
