Description

Copper naphthenate (CAS 1338-02-9), also sold under the abbreviation CNC and commercially known as naphthenic acids copper salts, is an oil-soluble copper compound used across industrial preservation, coatings, and rubber processing. It delivers broad-spectrum biocidal activity and functions as a metal catalyst in curing and cross-linking systems. In wood preservation and agricultural treatments, it protects timber, utility poles, and structural materials.

The compound prevents fungal decay and insect attack without requiring pressure treatment in all cases. Coatings and marine antifouling formulations incorporate it as a biocidal additive that remains active in oil-based systems. This makes it ideal where water-soluble alternatives are unsuitable. Rubber and elastomer manufacturers use it as a cross-linking catalyst and adhesion promoter, particularly in bonding rubber to metal or textile substrates.

In lubricant and metalworking fluid formulations, it acts as a boundary lubrication additive and corrosion inhibitor for specific metal surfaces. It is supplied as a liquid solution, typically in mineral spirits or naphtha carriers. Copper content is commonly specified at 8% or higher concentrations depending on end-use requirements. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering, with purity and copper content verified by certificate of analysis.

Bulk supply in drums and IBCs is standard for industrial buyers, with concentration and solvent carrier confirmed per order specification. This ensures consistent performance across various manufacturing applications.
