Rapeseed fatty acids
Description
Rapeseed fatty acids (CAS 85711-54-2), also referred to as rape-oil fatty acids, are a mixture of free fatty acids derived from refined rapeseed oil, predominantly oleic and linoleic acid fractions.
They function as multifunctional intermediates and performance additives across coatings, lubricants, and surface treatment industries. In industrial coatings and alkyd resin production, they serve as reactive building blocks.
These fatty acids influence drying performance and film flexibility in various resin systems. Lubricant and metalworking fluid formulators incorporate them for their boundary lubrication properties, reducing friction and wear.
They are essential in cutting and forming operations to protect machinery. In rubber compounding and tire manufacturing, they act as softeners and processing aids, improving filler dispersion and compound flow.
Textile and leather processors use them as fiber lubricants and surface conditioning agents. These agents modify wettability and reduce inter-fiber friction during complex manufacturing and processing stages.
Rapeseed fatty acids are supplied as a liquid or low-viscosity oil at ambient-to-warm temperatures. They are typically distributed in bulk, IBC, or drum formats to meet industrial volume requirements.
Technical grade is the standard commercial offering, with specifications covering acid value, iodine value, and color. Refined and distilled grades are available for applications requiring tighter fatty acid profiles.
