Rapeseed oil

Rapeseed oil (CAS 8002-13-9), also known as rape oil, is a vegetable oil pressed or extracted from the seeds of Brassica napus and related species. It functions as a base oil, plasticizer, and lubricant across food, cosmetic, and industrial manufacturing sectors.

In food manufacturing, it serves as a cooking and frying medium, a carrier oil in flavor systems, and a base for margarine and shortening production. Personal care formulators incorporate it into skin creams, hair conditioners, and lip products.

In these cosmetic applications, it acts as an emollient and spreading agent. Industrial grades are used as a base fluid in metalworking lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and release agents, where its natural lubricity reduces friction and tool wear.

Rapeseed oil is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid in bulk tankers, IBCs, and drums. Food-grade specifications are available meeting FCC and edible oil standards, while technical and industrial grades are offered for non-food applications.

Refined, bleached, and deodorized (RBD) variants are the most commonly traded forms across both food and industrial markets. These processes ensure the oil meets the necessary purity and stability requirements for long-term storage and use.
