Cottonseed oil
Description
Cottonseed oil (CAS 8001-29-4) is a refined vegetable oil pressed from the seeds of cotton plants, used commercially as an edible carrier, emulsifier, and lubricant base across food, cosmetic, and industrial sectors.
Its high smoke point and neutral flavor profile make it a practical choice for food manufacturers, while its fatty acid composition suits formulators in personal care and industrial lubrication applications.
In food manufacturing, it functions as a frying medium, salad oil base, and shortening component in snack foods, margarine, and baked goods. Cosmetic formulators use it as a skin-conditioning carrier in creams and lotions.
In hair care products, it supports emulsion stability and spreadability. In metalworking and industrial lubrication, it serves as a base fluid in cutting oils and rust-preventive compounds due to its film-forming characteristics.
It also acts as a solvent and dispersant in pesticide formulations and agricultural spray concentrates. The oil is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid in bulk quantities, intermediate bulk containers, and drums.
Standard grades include refined, bleached, and deodorized for food applications, as well as crude and technical grades for industrial use. Food-grade material is available to specifications meeting USP and FCC standards.
