Description

N,N,4-Trimethylbenzenamine (CAS 99-97-8), commercially known as N,N-Dimethyl-p-toluidine or DMPT, is a tertiary aromatic amine used primarily as a chemical accelerator and curing agent across polymer and coating systems. It activates peroxide-based initiators at ambient temperatures, enabling room-temperature cure without external heat input. In acrylic and methacrylate adhesive systems, DMPT accelerates the free-radical polymerization.

Initiated by benzoyl peroxide, it is a standard component in two-part structural adhesives and dental materials. Printing ink formulators use it to promote rapid cure in UV and peroxide-cured ink systems. This is essential where press-speed and substrate adhesion are critical. In fiber-reinforced polymer composites and casting resins, it enables cold-cure processing for parts where elevated-temperature post-curing is impractical.

DMPT also functions as an intermediate in synthesizing dyes and pigments, particularly azo-type colorants used in plastics and packaging materials. It is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid in standard drums. Technical grade is the predominant commercial specification, with purity levels typically at 98–99%+ by GC. Bulk availability supports both industrial compounders and smaller specialty formulators.

This ensures consistent amine activity across batches for various industrial applications. The product meets rigorous industrial requirements for stability and performance in diverse chemical manufacturing environments.
