N,N-dimethylaniline
Description
N,N-Dimethylaniline (CAS 121-69-7), commonly abbreviated as DMA, is a tertiary aromatic amine used as a chemical intermediate and accelerator across dye manufacturing, polymer curing, and specialty synthesis.
It functions primarily as a catalyst and reactive intermediate, enabling downstream production of dyes, agrochemicals, and cured resin systems. In the dye and pigment industry, DMA is a key intermediate.
It is used in the synthesis of triphenylmethane and azo dyes used in textile, paper, and leather coloring. Polymer formulators use it as a curing accelerator for unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins.
In these applications, it activates peroxide initiators to control cure rate in composite and laminate production. Printing ink manufacturers rely on DMA-derived colorants to achieve specific hue profiles.
These profiles are essential for packaging inks. It also serves as a building block in agrochemical and pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis, where controlled alkylation chemistry is required for production.
DMA is supplied as a liquid in bulk quantities, with drum and IBC packaging standard for industrial buyers. Technical grade is the most common commercial specification for these industrial applications.
Purity levels are typically at 99% or higher for synthesis applications. Buyers sourcing for regulated downstream uses should confirm supplier documentation for batch consistency and purity certification.
