Hexylene glycol
Description
Hexylene glycol (CAS 107-41-5), also marketed as MPD, is a multifunctional diol solvent used across coatings, personal care, and polymer manufacturing. It functions as a solvent, humectant, and coupling agent. This versatile chemical helps formulators achieve stable, homogeneous systems across a broad range of industrial formulations. In architectural and industrial coatings, it acts as a coalescing solvent and flow modifier.
The product improves film formation and leveling in waterborne systems, ensuring a high-quality finish. Personal care manufacturers incorporate it into skin creams, lotions, and toners as a humectant and preservation booster. It enhances the efficacy of antimicrobial systems at low use levels, providing value in cosmetic formulations. In adhesives and sealants, it functions as a reactive diluent and stabilizer for better performance.
The solvent extends open time and improves substrate wetting during application. Polymer processors also use it as a plasticizer intermediate and chain extender in polyurethane and polyester resin production. The material is supplied as a clear, low-viscosity liquid in bulk quantities including IBC totes and tanker loads. Drum packaging is also available for smaller volumes to meet diverse logistical needs.
Standard commercial supply meets technical-grade specifications for industrial use. Cosmetic-grade material conforming to established purity requirements is available for sensitive personal care applications.
