Description

Diethylene glycol monohexyl ether (CAS 112-59-4), also known commercially as Hexyl Carbitol, is a slow-evaporating glycol ether solvent used across coatings, cleaning, and metalworking formulations.

Its combination of hydrophilic and lipophilic character makes it effective as both a solvent carrier and an emulsifier in water-based and solvent-based systems. In architectural and industrial coatings, it functions as a coalescing aid.

It serves as a coupling solvent, improving film formation and flow in waterborne latex paints. Printing ink formulators use it to control viscosity and drying rate in packaging inks, particularly where extended open time is required.
