Cobalt octoate (CAS 136-52-7), also sold as cobalt 2-ethylhexanoate, is an oil-soluble cobalt salt used as a metal drier and curing catalyst.

Where is Cobalt octoate used?

Coatings: primary drier in alkyd and oxidative-cure systems, accelerating surface dry times in architectural paints, industrial finishes and printing inks
Rubber and tires: promotes adhesion between steel cord and rubber during vulcanization
Unsaturated polyester resins and gel coats: promoter with peroxide initiators to control cure onset
Adhesives and sealants: crosslinking catalyst for fast ambient-temperature cure
It accelerates oxidative crosslinking and cure reactions.
