Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate
Description
Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate (CAS 183476-82-6), also known as tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and commercially abbreviated as VC-IP, is a highly lipophilic ester form of Vitamin C used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations.
Unlike water-soluble ascorbic acid, it disperses readily in oils and emollients, enabling stable delivery of Vitamin C into lipid-rich skin layers. This oil-solubility makes it a preferred active for formulators.
It is ideal for those who need oxidation-resistant Vitamin C performance in anhydrous or low-water systems. In premium skincare, VC-IP is incorporated into facial serums, sunscreens, and anti-aging creams.
It provides antioxidant protection and supports an even skin tone without the instability issues common to aqueous Vitamin C formats. Oil-based and waterless formulations use it as a stable active ingredient.
Cleansing balms, facial oils, and lip treatments use it to remain effective throughout shelf life. Pharmaceutical topical preparations targeting skin oxidative stress also source VC-IP for its compatibility.
Its humectant contribution supports moisture retention in emollient-rich leave-on products. Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is supplied as a pale yellow to yellow viscous liquid or oil for industrial use.
It is available in cosmetic-grade specification, the standard form for personal care and topical pharmaceutical applications. Purity grades of 97% and above are commonly offered for formulation use.
