Atrazine
Description
Atrazine (CAS 1912-24-9) is a selective triazine herbicide used in commercial agriculture to control broadleaf and grassy weeds. Marketed under trade names including Weedex and Primatol A, it remains one of the most established herbicides. This chemical is utilized in pre- and post-emergent crop protection programs globally. It is primarily applied in maize and sorghum cultivation, where it controls a broad spectrum of annual weeds without damaging the crop.
In sugarcane production, it is used as a soil-applied treatment to suppress weed competition during the critical early growth phase. Formulators incorporate it into suspension concentrates and wettable powder products. The product is suitable for both ground and aerial application programs. It also serves as an active ingredient in tank-mix combinations with other herbicides to extend weed control spectrum and manage resistance.
The material is supplied as a technical-grade active ingredient, typically as a white crystalline powder at 95–97% purity for formulation use. Finished formulations are available as suspension concentrates and powders. These products are offered at standardized active concentrations to meet industrial requirements. Technical material is traded in bulk quantities, with supply sourced primarily from manufacturers in China and India.
