Polyethylene terephthalate
Description
Polyethylene terephthalate (CAS 25038-59-9), commercially known as Terylene or by the trade name Rynite, is a thermoplastic polyester resin used across packaging, textile, and industrial manufacturing.
Approved as E1512 for food-contact applications, it delivers high mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and barrier performance that procurement teams across multiple sectors rely on for their production needs.
In packaging, PET is the dominant material for blow-molded beverage bottles, food trays, and flexible films requiring moisture and gas barrier properties. Textile manufacturers use it to produce polyester fiber and filament yarn.
This resin serves as the base material for apparel, upholstery, and technical fabrics. In printing and packaging converting, biaxially oriented PET film serves as a substrate for lamination, metallization, and flexible printed electronics.
Engineering-grade compounds are also injection-molded into precision components such as connectors, housings, and structural parts in automotive and electrical applications. PET is supplied as pellets, chips, or flakes for industrial use.
Resin grades are differentiated by intrinsic viscosity (IV) to suit bottle, fiber, film, or engineering applications. Food-contact and beverage-grade material is available meeting FDA and EU food safety regulations.
Recycled PET (rPET) flake and pellet are also commercially available for buyers with sustainability or regulatory mandates. These materials ensure high performance while meeting modern environmental standards for global supply chains.
