Brilliant Black BN
Description
Brilliant Black BN (CAS 2519-30-4), also known as Black PN and approved as E151, is a synthetic azo dye used to impart deep black and dark brown-black coloration across food, textile, and leather applications.
It functions as a colorant in both aqueous and formulated systems, delivering strong tinctorial strength at low use levels. In food manufacturing, it is approved for use in products such as confectionery and sauces.
This additive is frequently utilized in fish roe analogues and soft drinks where a true black or near-black appearance is required. Textile processors apply it to dye wool, silk, and nylon substrates specifically.
It is particularly effective where uniform dark shades and acceptable wash fastness are specified. Leather finishers use it in dyeing and coating formulations to achieve consistent black tones on finished hides.
Paper manufacturers incorporate it into specialty colored paper grades where deep black coloration is part of the product specification. The material is supplied as a dark powder or granule for industrial use.
Its water solubility makes it suitable for liquid concentrate preparation. Food-grade material is available meeting E151 specifications under EU colorant regulations, ensuring high safety and quality standards.
Purity requirements govern subsidiary dyes and heavy metal limits for these applications. Technical grades are also available for textile and leather end uses where food compliance is not required for the process.
