Trioleyl phosphate
Description
Trioleyl phosphate (CAS 3305-68-8), commercially available as Hostaphat KO 300 and NIKKOL TOP-0, is a phosphate ester derived from oleyl alcohol used across industrial lubrication, polymer processing, and rubber compounding.
Its primary function is to reduce friction and wear in metal-on-metal contact while also acting as a plasticizer and flame retardant in polymer systems. In metalworking and industrial lubricants, it functions as an extreme-pressure additive.
It serves as an anti-wear additive in cutting fluids, gear oils, and hydraulic formulations where metal surface protection is critical. Polymer formulators incorporate it as a plasticizer and flame-retardant additive in PVC and other thermoplastics.
A single additive delivering both functions reduces formulation complexity. In rubber compounding, it improves processing flow and contributes flame resistance to finished tire and technical rubber components.
It is also evaluated as a base fluid component or additive in specialty lubricant blends requiring biodegradability credentials alongside performance. This versatility makes it a staple in high-performance chemical manufacturing.
Trioleyl phosphate is supplied as a clear to pale yellow viscous liquid. Technical grade is the standard commercial form for lubricant and polymer applications, ensuring consistent performance across batches.
It is available in drum and IBC quantities, with bulk supply options from established phosphate ester producers. Proper storage in a cool, dry environment is recommended to maintain the chemical stability of the product.
