Nickel carbonate
Description
Nickel carbonate (CAS 3333-67-3) is an inorganic nickel salt used across metallurgical, catalytic, and specialty chemical manufacturing. It functions primarily as a precursor for producing nickel-based catalysts and nickel oxides.
The material is essential for electroplating intermediates where controlled nickel content and purity are critical sourcing parameters. In catalyst manufacturing, it is calcined to produce nickel oxide or reduced to active nickel metal catalysts.
These catalysts are used in hydrogenation and reforming processes. Electroplating operations use it as a pH buffer and nickel ion source in plating bath formulations, helping maintain bath stability and deposit quality.
Ceramic and glass colorant producers rely on it to introduce nickel-derived pigmentation in specialty glazes and frits. In personal care, it appears in limited specialty formulations where controlled nickel ion activity is required.
Nickel carbonate is supplied as a light green powder in both technical and high-purity grades. Standard commercial specifications include minimum NiCO₃ assay levels, with purity grades ranging from technical to reagent quality.
Depending on end-use requirements, the product can meet various industrial specifications. Packaging is typically available in drums or bulk quantities suited to industrial procurement volumes for large scale manufacturing.
