Description

Diethylpropargylamine (CAS 4079-68-9), also known as 3-(Diethylamino)propyne, is a tertiary propargylic amine used as a reactive building block and polymerization initiator in specialty chemical synthesis. Its terminal alkyne group makes it a practical handle for constructing more complex molecular architectures in pharmaceutical and polymer research. In pharmaceutical synthesis, it serves as an intermediate for drug candidates.

This is particularly useful in CNS and enzyme-inhibitor programs. The terminal alkyne functionality supports copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition click chemistry, enabling efficient conjugation steps in medicinal chemistry. In polymer science, it functions as an initiator or co-monomer for synthesizing stimuli-responsive or functionalized polymers where pendant amine and alkyne groups are both required for the final application.

Biotechnology researchers use it to introduce clickable handles onto biomolecules for labeling, immobilization, or probe development. Diethylpropargylamine is supplied as a liquid for various industrial uses. It is available primarily at research and development scales, with high-purity grades suited to pharmaceutical intermediate and life sciences applications. Bulk quantities for scale-up synthesis can be sourced easily.
