Description

Arbutin (CAS 497-76-7), also known as alpha-arbutin in its synthetic isomeric form, is a naturally derived glycoside used primarily as a skin-brightening and hyperpigmentation-correcting active in cosmetic formulations.

It functions by inhibiting melanin synthesis, making it a sought-after alternative to hydroquinone in regulated markets. In skincare, it is formulated into serums, creams, and spot treatments targeting uneven skin tone and age spots.

Toners and essence products across the Asian personal care market rely on this ingredient as a primary brightening active, often at concentrations between 1–5%. Pharmaceutical-grade material is used in topical dermatological preparations.

These preparations require documented efficacy and purity documentation for regulatory submission. It also appears in color cosmetics and UV-care products where a secondary brightening benefit is commercially positioned alongside sun protection.

The material is supplied as a white crystalline powder in both natural (beta) and synthetic (alpha) forms. Alpha-arbutin commands a premium due to greater stability and potency at lower concentrations compared to the beta form.

Standard grades include cosmetic-grade and pharmaceutical-grade material, with the latter requiring tighter purity specifications. Bulk supply is available in kilogram and multi-kilogram quantities for industrial manufacturing needs.

High-purity grades are typically specified at ≥98% by HPLC to ensure maximum efficacy. Our supply chain ensures consistent quality for manufacturers requiring reliable active ingredients for high-end personal care and dermatological lines.
