Sodium diisobutyl dithiophosphate
Description
Sodium diisobutyl dithiophosphate (CAS 53378-51-1) is an organosulfur salt used primarily as a collector and surface-active agent in mineral processing and as a functional additive in metalworking formulations.
Its affinity for metal sulfide surfaces and reactive metal interfaces makes it a targeted choice for selective mineral recovery and metal protection applications. In froth flotation, it acts as a selective collector for copper, lead, and zinc sulfide ores.
This chemical improves concentrate grades while reducing reagent consumption versus less selective alternatives. Metalworking fluid formulators incorporate it as an extreme-pressure and anti-wear additive for high-load conditions.
It forms protective films on metal surfaces during cutting and grinding. It also functions as a corrosion inhibitor in industrial lubricants and hydraulic fluids, chelating dissolved metal ions that would otherwise accelerate oxidative degradation.
In mixed-sulfide ore circuits, its selectivity over iron sulfides allows processors to improve downstream metallurgical performance. This product is typically supplied as an aqueous solution with concentration ranges around 25–40% active content.
Higher-concentration grades are available depending on the supplier. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering for both mining reagent and lubricant additive applications, ensuring consistent performance in industrial settings.
Packaging ranges from drums to IBC totes and bulk tanker supply for large-volume mining operations. This versatility in logistics ensures that the product can be integrated into various industrial workflows and large-scale processing plants.
