Description

Selenium sulfide (CAS 56093-45-9) is an inorganic compound used as an active antifungal and antimicrobial agent in medicated personal care and pharmaceutical formulations. It targets the fungal organisms responsible for dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and tinea versicolor.

This material is a recognized active ingredient in regulated topical products. In medicated shampoos and scalp treatments, it functions as the active ingredient at concentrations typically ranging from 1% to 2.5%.

Higher concentrations are reserved for prescription-grade products. Pharmaceutical manufacturers incorporate it into topical lotions and creams formulated for dermatological conditions requiring antifungal efficacy.

In agricultural contexts, it has been evaluated as a biocidal agent in crop protection and pest management applications. Specialty formulators also reference it in antimicrobial preservation systems.

Fungal control is a primary formulation requirement for these systems. Selenium sulfide is supplied as a fine powder in both pharmaceutical and technical grades to meet diverse industry needs.

USP and BP grades are available to support regulated drug product manufacturing. These grades come with documentation packages suitable for regulatory submissions and quality assurance.

Technical-grade material serves non-pharmaceutical industrial applications where compendial specifications are not required. This ensures flexibility for manufacturers across different sectors and use cases.
