N-Methyl-D-glucamine
Description
N-Methyl-D-glucamine (CAS 6284-40-8), commercially recognized as Meglumine, is a sugar-derived amine used primarily as a salt-forming agent and solubilizer in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
It converts poorly water-soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients into stable, injectable or oral meglumine salts, improving bioavailability and formulation performance across various drug delivery systems.
In pharmaceutical manufacturing, Meglumine is the counterion of choice for formulating contrast media agents such as diatrizoate meglumine and iomepamide, used in diagnostic imaging injectables.
It also enables solubilization of antiparasitic and antifungal APIs. Meglumine antimoniate is a well-established example in leishmaniasis treatment formulations for global healthcare applications.
In topical and transdermal drug delivery, it functions as a pH adjuster and humectant carrier, improving skin compatibility in semi-solid formulations and specialized dermatological products.
Personal care formulators use it to stabilize and solubilize active ingredients in high-performance moisturizing serums and treatment creams, ensuring product stability and efficacy over time.
N-Methyl-D-glucamine is supplied as a white crystalline powder. Pharmaceutical-grade material is available to USP, BP, and Ph.Eur. specifications for high-purity requirements.
These standards meet the purity requirements for injectable and oral drug product manufacturing. Technical-grade material is also offered for non-pharmaceutical industrial applications.
