N,n-dimethylglucamine
Description
N,N-Dimethylglucamine (CAS 76326-99-3) is a sugar-derived amino alcohol used across pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and industrial water treatment applications. It functions as a pH buffer, chelating agent, and solubilizing carrier.
This versatile compound enables the formulation of otherwise difficult-to-process active compounds. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is used to form salt forms of acidic APIs, improving solubility and bioavailability.
These properties are particularly beneficial in injectable and oral dosage forms. Personal care formulators incorporate it as a buffering and chelating agent in skin-conditioning products to stabilize formulations.
It helps sequester metal ions that would otherwise degrade actives in cosmetic products. Water treatment applications rely on its chelation capacity to control scale-forming metal ions in process water systems.
It also serves as a solubilizing carrier in contrast media and diagnostic formulations. In these applications, controlled pH and metal coordination are critical to ensuring consistent product performance.
The material is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. Pharmaceutical-grade material is available to meet the purity requirements of regulated drug manufacturing and USP standards.
Technical-grade material is also offered for industrial water treatment use. Packaging is typically available in kilogram quantities through to bulk drum supply to meet diverse manufacturing needs.
