Description

Diglycolamine (CAS 929-06-6), commonly abbreviated as DGA, is a bifunctional amine-alcohol used across industrial and specialty chemical sectors. It combines amine and hydroxyl reactivity in a single molecule, enabling it to act as a curing agent and pH modifier.

Formulators and process engineers source DGA where dual-functional reactivity reduces the need for multiple additives. In natural gas and refinery operations, it is used as an acid gas scrubbing agent, selectively absorbing H2S and CO2 from process streams.

Epoxy and polyurethane formulators use it as a crosslinking and curing agent, where its amine group drives network formation. The hydroxyl group contributes to chain extension, making it a versatile component in high-performance polymer systems.

Water treatment applications rely on DGA for pH buffering and as a building block for corrosion inhibitor formulations. It provides stability and protection in aqueous environments where maintaining specific chemical balances is critical for infrastructure.

Personal care chemists incorporate it into hair and skin products as a neutralizing agent for anionic polymers and acidic actives. This ensures product stability and performance in various cosmetic formulations requiring precise acidity control.

Diglycolamine is supplied as a clear liquid, typically at high purity concentrations suitable for industrial and specialty applications. Technical grade is the most common commercial form for large-scale manufacturing and processing.

Refined grades meeting pharmaceutical or reagent specifications like USP or ACS are available from select suppliers. Bulk liquid supply in drums and IBC containers is standard for industrial procurement and logistics.
