Retinyl linoleate
Description
Retinyl linoleate (CAS 631-89-0), also known as Retinol linoleate, is an ester of vitamin A (retinol) combined with linoleic acid. It is used as a stable, oil-soluble source of vitamin A in cosmetic and nutritional formulations.
Its ester form improves shelf stability compared to free retinol, making it a preferred delivery form for formulators managing oxidation-sensitive actives. In skincare formulations, it is incorporated into anti-aging creams and serums.
Controlled release of vitamin A activity supports skin renewal without the irritation profile associated with retinoic acid. Supplement manufacturers use it as a bioavailable vitamin A source in softgel and oil-based nutritional products.
Cosmetic formulators also incorporate it into hair care products, where it conditions and supports scalp health alongside other lipid-soluble actives. Its compatibility with fatty acid-rich carrier oils makes it highly versatile.
It is suitable for premium facial oils and emollient-heavy skin barrier formulations. The product is supplied as a pale yellow to amber viscous liquid or oily solution available in cosmetic-grade and food-grade specifications.
Potency is typically expressed in IU/g or as a percentage of retinyl ester content. Bulk supply is standard in drums or smaller quantities for specialty formulation use, ensuring high quality for industrial applications.
