Sodium tolyltriazole

Sodium tolyltriazole (CAS 64665-57-2), also marketed as Cobratec TT50S and Cobratec TT85 and abbreviated TTA-Na, is a water-soluble corrosion inhibitor and metal deactivator used across industrial fluid systems. It functions by forming a stable protective complex on copper, brass, and other non-ferrous metal surfaces, preventing oxidative attack in aqueous and oil-based environments.

In water treatment systems, including cooling towers and closed-loop circuits, TTA-Na is dosed to protect copper alloy components from corrosion and pitting during operation. Lubricant and metalworking fluid formulators incorporate it as a metal deactivator to prevent copper catalysis of oil oxidation, extending fluid service life and performance.

Automotive antifreeze and coolant manufacturers use it as a non-ferrous metal corrosion inhibitor to meet OEM performance specifications across various vehicle cooling systems. It also appears in hydraulic fluids and industrial cleaners where copper and brass component protection is a formulation requirement for maintaining equipment integrity.

Sodium tolyltriazole is supplied as an aqueous solution, with 50% and 85% active content concentrations being the standard commercial forms for industrial use. Technical grade is the primary market specification, suitable for industrial fluid and water treatment applications. Bulk liquid supply in drums and IBC containers is the typical packaging format.
