p-toluenesulfonamide
Description
p-Toluenesulfonamide (CAS 70-55-3), also known as p-tosylamide, is a sulfonamide compound used primarily as a biocide and plasticizer intermediate across industrial processing sectors.
It functions as an antimicrobial agent in water-based systems and as a chemical building block in polymer and resin formulations. In water treatment, it controls microbial growth in cooling towers.
It is used in industrial process water and recirculating systems where biological fouling is a persistent operational problem. Textile and leather processors use it as a preservative in finishing baths.
It is utilized in coating formulations to extend the working life of aqueous preparations. In plastics, it acts as a plasticizer or modifier intermediate, particularly in the production of resins.
These sulfonamide-based resins are used for coatings and adhesives. Paper manufacturers incorporate it into process water treatment programs to suppress bacterial and fungal contamination during pulp processing.
p-Toluenesulfonamide is supplied as a white crystalline powder or fine granules. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity levels typically at 99% or above for industrial applications.
Packaging is available in bags and drums suited to bulk industrial procurement requirements. This ensures safe handling and efficient storage for large-scale manufacturing and chemical processing facilities.
