Polacrilin potassium

Polacrilin potassium (CAS 65405-55-2) is a crosslinked potassium salt of methacrylic acid copolymerized with divinylbenzene. Also marketed as Amberlite IRP88.

• Pharmaceutical manufacturing: tablet disintegrant and ion exchange resin
• Solid dosage form development: recognized excipient
• Tablet and capsule manufacturing: superdisintegrant that absorbs water rapidly, promoting tablet breakup and improving active ingredient release
• Chewable and orally disintegrating tablets: fast disintegration without excessive swelling
• Drug purification and controlled-release systems: cation exchange resin that binds basic drug molecules to modify release profiles
• Pediatric and veterinary oral solid formulations use it where taste masking is a goal.
