Description

Polacrilin potassium (CAS 65405-55-2) is a crosslinked potassium salt of methacrylic acid copolymerized with divinylbenzene. It is used in pharmaceutical manufacturing as a tablet disintegrant and ion exchange resin.

Sold under the trade name Amberlite IRP88, it is a recognized excipient in solid dosage form development. In tablet and capsule manufacturing, it functions as a superdisintegrant by absorbing water rapidly.

This action promotes tablet breakup and improves active ingredient release. Formulators use it in chewable tablets and orally disintegrating tablet formats where fast disintegration without excessive swelling is required.

It also serves in drug purification and controlled-release systems as a cation exchange resin. It binds basic drug molecules to modify release profiles in various pharmaceutical applications.

Pediatric and veterinary oral solid formulations use it where taste masking is a goal. It provides reliable disintegration while ensuring the final product meets specific patient compliance standards.

The material is supplied as a fine, off-white to cream-colored powder. It is available in USP/NF and Ph. Eur. compendial grades, which are the standard specifications demanded by procurement.

These quality standards ensure the material is suitable for regulated pharmaceutical environments. Packaging is typically offered in fiber drums suited to GMP manufacturing environments and long-term storage.
