Oxidized polyethylene wax
Description
Oxidized polyethylene wax (CAS 68441-17-8), commonly referred to as OPE Wax, is produced by controlled oxidation of polyethylene to introduce polar functional groups. These groups improve compatibility with polar substrates and dispersibility in aqueous systems.
It functions as a lubricant, surface modifier, and rheology agent across plastics processing, coatings, and printing applications. In PVC and thermoplastic compounding, it acts as an external lubricant and processing aid.
This material reduces die buildup and improves mold release without compromising mechanical properties. Coatings and polish formulations use it to build surface slip, scratch resistance, and matting effect in various systems.
It is effective in both solvent-borne and water-based systems for industrial use. Printing inks rely on it to control rub resistance and gloss on flexible packaging substrates during the manufacturing process.
In rubber and tire manufacturing, it supports mold release and acts as a dispersing agent for carbon black and other fillers. This ensures uniform distribution of additives during the intensive mixing stages.
Oxidized polyethylene wax is supplied as white to off-white powder, flakes, or pastilles. Powder is the most common form for industrial compounding and the preparation of stable chemical emulsions.
Standard grades are differentiated by acid value, melt point, and viscosity. Emulsifiable grades are available for water-based coating and polish applications requiring specific performance characteristics.
Technical-grade material is the market standard for most industrial users. Specifications typically align to customer-defined acid value ranges and melt point windows to ensure consistent production results.
