Epoxidized linseed oil

CAS

Description

Epoxidized linseed oil (CAS 8016-11-3) is a bio-based plasticizer and stabilizer derived from linseed oil through an epoxidation process. It functions primarily as a secondary plasticizer and heat/light stabilizer in PVC and other polymer systems.

This chemical extends the performance of primary plasticizers while improving long-term stability. In PVC compounding, it acts as a co-plasticizer alongside phthalates or citrates, improving flexibility and resistance to heat degradation.

It is commonly utilized in the production of films, cables, and flooring. Coatings formulators incorporate it as a reactive diluent and cross-linking agent in alkyd and epoxy-based systems, contributing to film hardness and durability.

In adhesives and sealants, it improves flexibility and adhesion in formulations exposed to thermal cycling. Lubricant and metalworking fluid manufacturers use it as a bio-based base component where low toxicity is required.

The material is preferred in applications where biodegradability is a procurement priority. It is supplied as a pale yellow viscous liquid in drum and IBC quantities for industrial use and large scale manufacturing.

It is available in technical and industrial grades, with specifications typically defined by oxirane oxygen content and iodine value. Food-contact compliant grades meeting relevant regulatory standards are also available.

These specialized grades are suitable for applications in packaging materials. The product ensures high performance across various polymer systems while maintaining environmental compliance and safety standards for global distribution.
