Description

Linseed oil (CAS 8001-26-1), also commercially known as flaxseed oil, is a drying oil pressed from the seeds of the flax plant. Its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids enables it to oxidize and polymerize on exposure to air.

This process forms a tough, flexible film that makes it a foundational raw material across coatings, printing inks, and industrial binders. In architectural and industrial coatings, it functions as a binder and film former.

It is used in oil-based paints, primers, and wood finishes, contributing to adhesion and surface hardness. Printing ink manufacturers use it as a vehicle base in offset and letterpress formulations for better performance.

The viscosity and drying profile of the oil directly affect ink lay and press performance. In linoleum flooring and oilcloth production, polymerized oil acts as the primary binding matrix for mineral fillers and pigments.

Leather and textile finishing operations apply it as a conditioning and waterproofing agent. It also serves as a lubricant base in metalworking compounds and is supplied as an amber to yellow liquid in bulk formats.

Standard commercial grades include raw, boiled, and stand oil variants, each with distinct viscosity and drying characteristics. Technical and refined grades are available to meet specific industrial formulation needs.

Boiled grades are most common for coatings applications due to their accelerated drying times. All products are handled according to strict industrial safety and quality standards to ensure consistent performance.
